China Jan PPI up 6.1 pct yr-on-yr - stats bureau - UPDATE

BEIJING (XFN-ASIA) - China's January producer price index (PPI) rose 6.1 pct from a year earlier, the National Bureau of Statistics said in a statement.

That compares with an increase of 5.4 pct in December and a rise of 3.1 pct in 2007.

The NBS said procurement prices for raw materials, fuel and power rose 8.9 pct year-on-year in January.

Prices for production materials increased 6.5 pct, while mining and exploration prices rose 20.5 pct.

Raw material prices rose 8.5 pct last month.

Prices for the processing industry rose 3.8 pct, with consumer goods prices up 4.6 pct.

Prices for food and related products rose 10.4 pct, while clothing and related product prices were up 2.2 pct.

Daily consumer goods prices increased 3.0 pct in January, while prices for consumer durables were down 0.6 pct.

Prices of crude oil rose 29.9 pct in January, while the prices of gasoline, kerosene and diesel were up 7.3 pct, 10.9 pct and 10.0 pct respectively.

Polystyrene prices rose 4.9 pct last month.

Coal mining and washing prices increased 14.3 pct and raw coal prices were up 14.9 pct. Ferrous metal processing prices rose 17.3 pct in January.

Prices for large- and medium-sized steel products rose 17.3 pct and 28.6 pct respectively, while prices for small steel products were up 26.7 pct.

Steel wire prices rose 25.0 pct, while prices for medium thickness steel plate were up 16.6 pct.

Non-ferrous metal processing prices increased 4.7 pct last month.
